RULES AND REGULATIONS

Stoneman Douglas Eagle Invitational (Saturday Oct 28th, 2017)

FORMAT:

1. Each school can enter as many Teams as they would like to register.

2. Each "team" consists of a maximum of 4 students.

3. In the first round, each team will select 2 pilots who will attempt to qualify their Team for the Tournament Round". The names must be submitted 1 week in advance of the competition.

4. Any other members of the Team will serve as spotters in the Qualifying Round.

5. The top 8 individual performances (*based on points as explained below) will advance their Team to the Tournament Round. (If 2 members from the same team are in the top 8, then the 9th place individual will advance their team)

 

6. The "Elite 8" will be seeded from 1-8 based on their scores and pair off accordingly (Seed #1 vs. #8, etc...) in a bracket-style tourney.

7. In this round, however, a NEW PILOT must fly the drone (if there are at least 3 members on the team).

8. This round is single elimination – lose & your team Is out. Win, and a NEW PILOT must fly the drone in the "Final 4" (if there are 4 members on the team)

9. If you lose in the Final 4, you may choose ANY PILOT to fly for 3rd place.

10. If you win in the Final 4, you many choose ANY PILOT to fly for the CHAMPIONSHIP (which will be a best 2 out of 3).

 

11. The Championship, therefore, goes to the TEAM. However, the highest INDIVIDUAL performance of the day, from ANY ROUND, will receive the award for BEST PILOT.

 

*SCORING:

1. Each round will have a maximum time (prob. In the range of 2-3 minutes)

2. We will announce the exact time once the course is built and we can determine a fair "baseline" time

3. Pilots will receive 10 points for each obstacle they successfully pass

4. Pilots will receive BONUS POINTS as applicable (there will be optional "challenges" within the course)

5. Pilots will also receive BONUS POINTS for completing the entire course

6. In the event of a tie in the first round, there will be a "mini-challenge" to determine the winner (a 1-obstacle course race, for example)

7. Time will only be recorded for any pilot completing the course (in case a tie-breaker is needed). Otherwise, the total number of points is all that counts

 

NEW RULES:

1. Anyone within the race zone MUST wear protective EYEWEAR.

2. Each school will receive 1 pair of protective goggles for EACH paying TEAM.

3. The course will have a SINGLE LAP with optional challenges to increase points.

4. Pilots will be located INSIDE a protective cage in the CENTER of the course

5. Teams may have up to 4 "spotters" at each corner of the gym. However, they must stay behind the protective netting at all times or forfeit the race.  Radio equipment may be used for team communication.  Coaches/advisers are permitted to give guidance to pilots during flight.

6. The DEADLINE for registration is 1 WEEK prior to the event. In this case, all TEAMS must be registered by MIDNIGHT, October 21stt.
